Scan To BIM modelling is the process of creating a 3D model from real world measurements, to create a highly accurate 3D model.
We primarily use laser scanned point cloud data to create our 3D models in Revit. This results in an incredibly accurate intelligent 3D BIM (Building Information Model) model.
Scan to BIM projects created with Revit allow for a phased approach of designed and construction, starting with the existing building being created on the Existing phase, and then the designers can add any design modifications onto as many phases that are required to complete the project.
We are always updating and improving our own in house families that we use for our models, these allow for a much higher level of accuracy and details as compared to the standard Revit families.
Depending on the scanners used, we can achieve up to 2mm accuracy when required. Having a level of accuracy this high will result in many different door types etc. due to 2mm difference in width or height dimensions. This is not always useful to the clients and creates very large and difficult to run models. For this reason, we find that a higher tollerance is beneficial to clients so our standard levels are 10mm/20mm, we are happy to discuss any specific requirements on all projects.
We have our in house LOD specification, designed for As-Built modelling, as compared to the current LOD documents which as designed for Design models. Our specification can be identified in the format of LOD2, LOD3, LOD4, LOD5 as opposed to the design specification using LOD300, LOD350, LOD400 etc.
At DG Modelling the core of our modelling is created using our in house plugins that are continuously being developed, these allow us to create more accurate models with a much higher level or detail and at an increased speed, this allows us to offer very competative pricing for our Scan to BIM projects.
